“Hunters” by David Chancellor
“Hunters” by David Chancellor, an International documentary photographer published Worldwide, is an impressive series, exploring the relationship between man and animal, and has now been released as a monograph by Schilt Publishing.
"At the beginning of the 20th century, East African hunting safaris became a fashionable pursuit among members of the privileged classes, particularly in Britain and the United States. The completion of the Uganda Railway in 1901 provided easier access to the interior highlands of British East Africa (now Kenya), where large game, especially elephants, lions, buffalo and rhinoceros, was plentiful. The white hunter served these paying customers as guide, teacher, and protector…"

5th Roundtable session C.F.M. - D.T.W.: Cláudio Reis and Carlos Lobo
Held in the library auditorium of FAUP, this last Thursday, April 18, another session took place of our Roundtables cycle D.T.W. integrated in the Photography and Multimedia Communication course (C.F.M.) of the 4th and 5th Years in FAUP.
In this 5th session we had as guest authors Cláudio Reis (1) and Carlos Lobo (2) who helped moderating this roundtable through an exploratory and critical dialogue based on the work presented by Claudio.
Claudio’s presentation had as motto "Photography as a second glance, from trace to concept" through which he explained his on going photography project "Coa" and it was based on this project that later began the interesting discussion about the possibility of using photography as a means to decode the creative process in architecture.
The series is a documentary art photography project that seeks to communicate, on the one hand, the unique experience of that place in Foz Coa, selecting in its landscape the traces - artefacts and natural elements - responsible for triggering the most significant ideas and impressions coming from that experience. On the other hand, even though the photography project has its own autonomy, it is strongly correlated with the thinking of the discipline and practice of architecture: the design process and construction of the Côa Museum by Camilo Rebelo and Tiago Pimentel and also very linked to the conceptual issues related to the process of architectural idea’s materialization and its communication through the use of image.

Presentation
scopio© magazine is a semiannual publication on Photography, Architecture and Public Space, associated to the Cityscopio Cultural Association and the Espaço F-FAUP, from CCRE research group.
The choice of the name scopio for this (maga)zine is related directly to the word’s etymology – a Greek root meaning instrument for viewing trough a hollow organ, thus being connected to the act of observing and capturing light trough the camera.
Mission
The publication of scopio intends with this action to create an editorial line related to photography and image of Architecture and Public Space.
We intend, with this strategy, to promote the awareness and reflection upon photography image in regards to its conception as (a) an instrument to question the real space and its experiences, (b) a support and technique for the mediatization and reception of architecture by a wide public and also (c) an instrument for exploring spatial forms and new architecture.
scopio will be published in a book and magazine format with a structure inspired by the small alternative publications known as bookzines and zines.
scopio’s main interest is to publish visual narratives, texts or other related works coming from several authors, in which photography is used as a research instrument.
